About Highland Meadows

Stack enough stones and you get more than a pile — you get a marker. A promise that someone was here, and left something for whoever comes next.

Cairns have guided travelers through the Scottish Highlands for centuries — stone waymarkers built one traveler at a time, each stone added by a hand passing through. An old Gaelic blessing, "I will put a stone on your cairn," wished safe passage to whoever found the path.

The tradition never really left. Hikers still rely on cairns today, out past the tree line and above the marked trails, where a stack of stones is the only sign you're headed the right way. No map replaces it. Just stones, placed by whoever came before, trusted by whoever comes next.

That lineage runs directly through us. Our roots trace back to Clan Cameron, the Scottish highlands themselves — carrying the name forward before ever setting foot on this mesa.

We chose the cairn because Highland Meadows sits on ground that earns the name honestly, twice over. The Black Hills rise as their own highlands, granite and rock outcrop country, a mesa carved by wind and water long before we arrived. Two highlands, an ocean apart, a family name carried between them, meeting on 12.5 acres in Hot Springs.

It's not a borrowed symbol here. It's the land itself, stacked into shape — one more stone on a cairn that started long before us.
